Event - Birmingham City Ladies Football Takeover
13 October 2017
This year we are fortunate enough to be able to work in partnership with Birmingham City Ladies Football Club by joining their Sister Club Programme which gives us access to many rewards.
On Friday 13th October our girls football club was treated to a coaching session. Children from Year 3 to Year 6 got to enjoy a football drills session led by Birmingham City Ladies captain Kerys Harrop. Kerys is the longest serving player at Birmingham City Ladies FC, having come through the Centre of Excellence.
The aim of the session was to inspire and engage our girls in football to aid their physical and personal development.
The children got involved in lots of fun development games which focused on their passing, dribbling, shielding of the ball and shooting. Who knew you could play stuck in the mud while dribbling with a ball? Our pupils were very enthusiastic and engaged in the session throughout and fully enjoyed the experience of being coached by a professional footballer.
The children impressed Kerys Harrop with their enthusiasm and had this to say about the session and our pupils:
"I had great fun coaching the girls at St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School. All of them were very welcoming and enthusiastic to learn some new football skills. I hope that I have been able to inspire the girls to one day be professional footballers themselves! All of us at BCLFC look forward to seeing some of them at our games this season."
Quotes from the children:
"I enjoyed being coached by Kerys Harrop who helped me to develop my football knowledge but also inspired me to participate in football more." Farzana
"I liked how we played games in football which helped me to learn techniques and skills." Isata
