Event - Year 6 visit a Sikh Temple

September 2010

In September, Year 6 visited the Sikh Gurdwawa in Handsworth as part of their multi cultural week. In class they have been studying Sikhism, the religion and its culture.

Before we entered the magnificent building we all had to cover our heads as a mark of respect.

We sat cross legged on the floor in the enormous prayer room. There was somebody reading continually from the Holy Book as we sat quietly.

Our next stop was at the top of the building where there is a further prayer room. The dome is a very special part of the building.

Inside the dome there is a magnificent ceiling made out of different types of glass.

Sharing food is a very important part of the Sikh religion and we all sat down and shared a meal together before returning back to school.
